Hourglass Veil Translucent Setting Powder

Hey loves,
Today’s post is going to be a review of the Hourglass Veil Translucent Setting Powder. There has been, and still is, a lot of hype around this specific powder and people claim that this is the best powder for dry skin. I had a little discount code for Sephora.fr and immediately bought this powder before my low-buy started obviously πŸ˜‰

First of all, this powder is extremely expensive. If I hadn’ had the 20% discount, then I would not have bought this (probably, I’m not sure). But I did have the discount and a lot of people raved about this powder, so I was willing to put it to the test. As you might know, I have very dry skin and powders are not my best friend. Especially setting powders. Most setting powders emphasise the texture and dryness of my skin and also emphasises the fact that I am wearing makeup. It’s just not a good look. A lot of people that I watch on youtube and that have dry skin and also hate powders have said that this is their new ride or die. I was a bit shook but let’s start the review.

The packaging looks luxurious and it better should because of the price, haha. It comes in a luxurious jar with a glossy bronzed lid and ‘Hourglass’ in gold font. The inside of the jar has a gold sifter that has the letter H as a dispenser. I think this is such a nice touch instead of the standard poked holes. The cap is very unique and has a small container that holds the powder in place and makes sure it doesn’t fly all over the place when shaking the jar. The powder retails for €48 and is available on the Hourglass website and Sephora.fr. It’s also vegan and cruelty-free.

This powder is 100% talc-free. It feels silky and is very finely milled. It actually feels even softer than their ambient powders. When swatched or used on the face, the powder seems to have a slight sheen to it. Therefore it won’t provide you with a fully matte look, which I like because it makes the base look natural. I feel like most powders mattify the skin and immediately emphasise the fact that you’re wearing makeup. Luckily and surprisingly, this one doesn’t do that for me. I love it the most on the parameters of the face. It sets the face naturally and diminishes any signs of fine lines I might have and prolongs the wear of my makeup.

However, I have noticed that my under eye area creases a lot faster in comparison to the face when I use the Veil Translucent powder. I use quite emollient concealers so they crease faster. However, it doesn’t crease horribly but it is something to note. It does set the under eye area beautifully when I use a more matte concealer. Usually, my under eye area looks extremely dry after setting them with powder but this one doesn’t do that. I don’t necessarily see a soft-blurring effect or the minimization of pores, though. Not that I mind. Last but not least, it doesn’t have flashback when doing flash photography.

So, I’m in love with this. It is definitely worth the hype and I’m glad I splurged on this item. It doesn’t minimize the appearance of pores but does decrease the amount of time before my fine lines start to crease and it sets the face as natural as possible. It does feel weightless and looks very natural in comparison to other powders that make my face feel dry and tight. However, I wouldn’t recommend it for very oily skin types.

That’s it for my review today. What do you think of the Hourglass Veil Translucent powder? Have you tried anything else by them?
Lots of love and see you next time!

  1. I honestly love everything that Hourglass brings out, even though I never tried anything from them they are one of my favorite high end brands as they bring out quality over quantity. The packing as always is on point with Hourglass. I feel like it is worth splurging on powders and foundations, because those are a bit tricky to formulate, so paying a lot of money for those is not that bad, right? I love how this one looks on you girl, such a good powder definitely. xx

    1. I totally understand what you’re saying. I adored Hourglass as a brand a long time before I tried any of their products. Their aestethic and vision/ethics as a luxury brand is remarkable. I love the fact that they’re cruelty-free and working on being 100% vegan. Foundations and powders are definitely worth the splurge, especially if they’re as good as this one. I have my eye on the new Hourglass foundation because it looks so pretty! Thank you for reading as always! xx
