Too Faced Born This Way Multi-Use Sculpting Concealer

Hey loves,
It’s been a while since I’ve written or posted anything on my blog and I’ll explain soon why that is. Today I will review the most hyped up concealer of the year. The new Too Faced Born This Way Concealer!

I would like to begin by saying that there is a range of 20 shades to choose from. 20 shades is a considerable amount, and there is a nice diversity between the paler and the deeper spectrum. I would love to see more shades though. More hues and more in-between shades would be lovely. I have read that there will be a shade expansion, but I’m not sure when that will take place.

This isn’t the first ‘Born This Way’ concealer. Too Faced already brought out a concealer with the name ‘Born This Way’. I don’t own the previous concealer, but I’ve heard that it’s a hydrating concealer, even more so than the new ‘Born This Way’ concealer. It has a different formula and packaging. I do understand that Too Faced wanted to stay in their ‘Born This Way’ range with this new face product, but I also do think that it might create some confusion. Another name would have better suited this concealer.

Too Faced says that the ‘Born This Way Multi-Use Sculpting Concealer’ is multifunctional and can be used as a concealer, cream contour or cream highlight. It shouldn’t clog pores or cause break-outs. One swipe is said to provide maximum coverage whilst still feeling and looking lightweight. A natural ‘born this way’ look is what this concealer aims for. No cakiness and no flashback. It also has a hydration function. Last but not least, it should last up to 12 hours of wear.

I want to start this review by saying that you get a lot of product. You get 15ml of product, which is half of a foundation. A foundation usually has around 30ml of product. I looked at some of my other concealers for comparison. The Milani Retouch + Erase has 7ml, the Catrice Liquid Camouflage 5ml and the Maybelline Fit Me has 6,8ml worth of product. So, it’s obvious that you get a lot of product for the price that you pay.

The packaging is coherent with the rest of the ‘Born This Way’ range. It’s a transparent tube with a black cap and gold details and lettering. The packaging is made of plastic but does feel and look luxurious. It’s actually the only product from Too Faced that I don’t find tacky or childlike. The concealer has a big doe-foot applicator. Like gigantic. The applicator feels a bit stiff and I do feel like it doesn’t pick up enough product. I have to re-dip at least once more to cover the areas that I want to cover.

I bought the shade ‘Almond’, which used to be my perfect summer shade. However, the slightest tan I had, has quickly faded and the colour Almond is currently too dark. If I decide to repurchase this concealer, I might go for the shade ‘Snow’ which has golden undertones and is quite fair. This concealer is available on Cult Beauty.

The formula of the Born This Way Multi-Use Sculpting Concealer is pretty good. I’m not wowed by it though. First of all, the pigment is amazing. There’s a very high saturation and you don’t need a lot of product to cover what you want to cover. Do not slap it on in huge quantities. This will only make it crease faster. The less you use, the better. I also really liked the way it blended. It blends really easy and very fast. It almost seems as if the concealer melts into the skin. Another thing which I like is the minimal creasing I get with this concealer. It’s really minimal. I don’t believe in the entire ‘this concealer does not crease’ hype, because that’s a joke. As long as you have creases under your eyes, the concealer will crease. It’s about finding which product minimises that creasing product and this concealer does that!

The only remark I have about the Born This Way Multi-Use Sculpting Concealer is that it starts to look a bit dry underneath the eyes after a few hours of wear. I must say that I have dry skin and I experience this a lot, but it’s just something that I have noticed and I don’t particularly like. I’m therefore not too sure about the hydrating aspect of this concealer. I don’t think it hydrates the eyes at all. The concealer definitely doesn’t look or feel heavy or cakey and that is a bonus.

I’m not too sure if I’m going to repurchase this concealer again. I feel like it’s a good concealer, but I have better ones lying on my vanity. I do think this might work better for people who are less dry than myself. I feel like you should really give it a try. The blendability is amazing, the finish is gorgeous and the shade range is pretty good.

That’s it for this review! What did you think about the new Too Faced concealer? Will you buy it? Will you consider it? Let me know!
Lots of love and see you soon!

  1. I feel like I’m completely set with Catrice and Essence Camouflage concealers for the rest of my life, so I don’t need any other concealer haha. I like how this one looks though and definitely hype makes me curious to try it myself. Might do it do, but I’m very comfortable with Essence and Catrice right now and their prices. Lovely review. xx

    1. I’m a hoarder when it comes to concealers. I just like buying and testing them so much! And I agree with the Catrice and Essence concealers. They’re the only ones that I continue to repurchase. They’re just hard to beat when it comes to formulation and price! This one is nice though, I would definitely recommend purchasing it when you’re less dry than me ๐Ÿ™‚ xx

  2. I think I’ll pass on this concealer for now. I have the Tarte Shape Tape Concealer that I love!
I do agree with you that they should have used a different name since they already have a ‘Born This Way Concealer’. The concealer does sound nice though & I have oily skin, so I don’t think I’ll have the problem with it being too drying. So when I eventually run out of the Tarte Shape Tape I may try it out ๐Ÿ˜Š
