Fenty Beauty Flyliner Review

Liner. Eyeliner. Flyliner. Rihanna is changing our vocabulary one word at a time. She’s also improving our makeup collection with each product she releases. But will this eyeliner, or should I say Flyliner, become the ultimate eyeliner on the makeup market?

It has been years since I have last used an eyeliner. I used to wear it every day but I just stopped for some reason. I wasn’t a big fan of winging it anymore. However, I decided to change the rather eyeliner-less situation when I saw that Fenty Beauty was coming out with a Flyliner. I’m not joking when I say that the name was a huge part of the reason why I bought it. Will this liner make me wing again?

First of all, let’s start this review by saying that the packaging is stunning. It is gorgeous and I love the aesthetic of the entire Fenty collection. The liner has a triangular shape which makes the application really easy to control. However, it might take some time getting used to the shape. I feel like the tip is the most important part, with pigmentation second of course, of an eyeliner. Some are too thick and others are too stiff or too flexible. You succeed or you fail with the tip. The Fenty Beauty Flyliner has a very fine felt tip which isn’t too stiff nor too flexible. It is sturdy enough to get the line that you want. I’m very impressed with the versatility of the tip. Extremely fine lines, thick lines, circles, hearts, you name it. The Fenty Beauty Flyliner does it all and without a problem.

The Flyliner has a wet consistency and is very pigmented. It’s probably the most opaque and black eyeliner I have ever tried. I was a bit scared at first because you need the slightest touch to lay down colour since the felt tip is so heavily saturated with pigment. However, the application becomes extremely easy once you get the pressure right. The Flyliner applies like slicing through butter and doesn’t skip on the lid whilst applying. Neither does it crumble or create patchiness by picking up the first layer. Don’t forget to shake well before applying. Once dried, the Fenty Flyliner has a semi-matte finish and does not budge. It lasts a very long time and all without ever crumbling!

I do have some tips to share to maximise the use of the Flyliner. Just little things that I noticed during my trial of the Fenty Flyliner and that are very easy to solve.
First of all, I did notice some feathering/bleeding of the product when I first applied it on the back of my hand and bare eyes. It wasn’t anything dramatic but it’s worth mentioning. However, I quickly found out that it was due to the natural oils on my body and bare eyes. Once I did my normal base routine (foundation-concealer-powder) the feathering did not occur and it didn’t smudge throughout the day.

Secondly, the pen seems to leak a bit and I feel like that’s due to the extremely fine tip and the saturated pigment makes it appear worse than it actually is. A little tip that I would like to give you is to be careful whilst opening the liner and to store it upwards. Make sure that the felt tip is aimed towards the sky, haha. I found that it doesn’t have the tendency to leak when I store it that way.

Here’s a little swatch on the eye. I’m far from perfect!

I really enjoy the Flyliner by Fenty Beauty and I definitely recommend buying this little fella if you’re a beginner with eyeliner. It’s very practical, easy to use and pigmented enough. It’s also cheaper than a lot of other high-end eyeliners from other brands such as the Kat Von D Tattoo Liner. The Fenty Beauty Flyliner in ‘Cuz I’m Black’ is available on Sephora.com, Sephora.fr and Harvey Nichols and retails for €18,99.

That’s it for this review! Do you think the Flyliner is actually fly?
Lots of love and see you next time!
