MAC Cosmetics Extra Dimension Skinfinish in Double Gleam

Whenever I visit a MAC store, it’s usually for their lipsticks and that’s it. I never tried anything else by MAC before and I wanted to change that! I was on the lookout for one of their highlighters when my dearest best friend bought me exactly what I wanted!

The packaging is typical for MAC. The highlighter comes in a round black compact with the same silver specks in it as their lipsticks. Sleek and recognizable! One thing about the packaging that is different to their other highlighters (Mineralize Skinfinish) is the way the product is pressed into the pan. It’s flat instead of rounded like Soft and Gentle and has the MAC logo and stripes printed on it instead of swirls. There are currently 7 colours available in the Extra Dimension Skinfinish line for €31 for 9 grams.

As you might notice, Double Gleam has already been used before. I took pictures when it was still clean but I lost them on my computer, so I had to take them again. According to MAC, the Extra Dimension Skinfinish has a cream to powder formula and I must say that I disagree. The highlighter feels really soft but doesn’t feel like a cream at all. It’s your regular powder highlighter. Double Gleam blends out effortlessly and you need the tiniest amount, you can either use a little amount of product to produce a very subtle luminosity or you can really pack a punch when you build it up. My favourite thing about this highlighter is the finish. It gives you a strobing effect due to the glossy/wet looking finish. It doesn’t leave a very evident stroke of highlighter on your face, instead, it’s pretty invisible on the skin until you catch the light in a certain way and BAM, there’s Double Gleam! A tiny remark that I must tell you is that Double Gleam contains some glitter particles. It’s not packed with glitter and the glitter particles are very minuscule so you only see it in the harshest lights.

The Extra Dimension Skinfinish in Double Gleam is a light gold/beige that breaks silver in certain lights, so it’s warm and cool-toned at the same time. You will see the cool-toned tint in the full face pictures down below. I personally think that this colour is best suited for the paler people of the spectrum to maximum slightly medium. I’m quite sure that this will look ashy on people with a darker complexion but don’t be sad, there are other colours that might match you beautifully, so definitely go to a MAC store when you’re interested in these highlighters to give them a swatch!

Here you can see the cool tint to it a bit better but at the same time, it’s still warm enough for me to not look too icy! I really like this highlighter and I think it’s perfect for gloomy dark days, pictures and going out! You will be the shining diamond of the evening! A massive thanks to my beloved best friend for this perfect birthday gift, it’s my most beautiful highlighter in my collection right now!
What do you think of Double Gleam or other Extra Dimension Skinfinishes?
Lots of love and see you next time!

  1. It’s absolutely beautiful. I actually didn’t see this one at local MAC, I usually see Soft and Gentle. Shade is really neutral, it will go beautifully every season with any type of makeup. xx

  2. This highlighter is perfect for photography. I feel like a lot of highlighters look great in real life but choppy on camera, but this one just looks like a fantastic option.

    1. I agree! I have a lot of highlighters that do not show up on pictures but this one is blinding and photographs perfectly!
